Don is very active in the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Board in 1986. He was also recognized in 1995 as Volunteer of the Year for his leadership role in creating the Trusler Business Center. Don currently serves as a member of the Regional Development Association Board of Directors.
A 1986 Leadership Kansas graduate, Don later served on the Leadership Kansas Board of Trustees which he also chaired in 1990. Don is a past Kansas Chamber of Commerce and
Industry Director.
In 1998, Don served as United Way of the Flint Hills annual
drive Chairman. He is a past Emporia Rotary Club president,
one of the founders of Leadership Emporia, a founding Board member of the National Teachers Hall of Fame, and a past
Board member of the Emporia Arts Council.
